The following non-profit agencies provide family law services at low or no cost. This is a not a comprehensive list. HARRIET BUHAI CENTER FOR FAMILY LAW3350 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 710 APPTS.: Obtained by calling Monday between 9:30 am-12:20 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. or Tuesday-Friday 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Services are provided by appointment only, no walk-ins. COSTS: No fee, donations are accepted based on how much each person can afford to give. GUIDELINES: They do not provide representation by attorneys in court: there are income restrictions. SERVICES: All types of family law. LEVITT & QUINN FAMILY LAW CENTER1557 Beverly Boulevard APPTS.: Call Monday through Friday, between 8:30am-12:00pm; and 1:00pm-5:00pm. HOURS: Walk-In - Thursdays - at 2:00 noon Fridays - 8:00 A.M.(They take the first eight clients each day on a first come, first served basis.) COSTS: To apply for Levitt-Quinn services you must apply in person. Clients pay modest fees based on a family's income and number of children. Cost for services amount to a small fraction of what a typical for-profit law firm would charge. SERVICES: Child custody and parenting plans, domestic violence restraining orders, spousal and child support, marital dissolutions, paternity actions, child support collection defense, and grandparent rights. The staff consists of attorneys and paralegals, which will meet with parties individually to attempt to resolve their support issues. The staff does not give legal advice nor does it represent a particular party in an action. There is no confidentiality nor attorney-client relationship created or intended between the office and a party. Each day, the office serves parties referred by the courts, parties through appointments at most court locations, and, if time permits, walk-in parties. The office does not provide assistance over the telephone other than to make appointments or to answer general questions. Calls to any Facilitator Office should be made between 8:00-9:00 a.m. The Office of the Family Law Facilitator does not charge for its services nor does it accept contributions. FAMILY LAW SELF-HELP CENTER FOR VENTURA COUNTYThe Family Law Self-help Center is located at the Ventura Courthouse (Hall of Justice, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura, CA 93009) on the fourth floor, in Room 400 outside of the family law courts. The Center is open during normal court hours, between 8:30-12:00, and 1:30-4:30 daily. On Mondays, the Center is open only in the afternoon and it is closed all day on Thursdays. The Center is staffed by the Family Law Facilitator, a Document Examiner, and volunteers. The Staff can assist you in selecting and completing the appropriate forms, and with information regarding the status of your case, your court appearance and general information regarding all aspects of family law. Family Law refers to dissolution, or divorce, legal separation, child custody and visitation disputes, child and spousal support, property and debt Division and restraining orders. It can provide assistance only with family law matters. The Center can also provide you with child support calculations. The Staff cannot represent you and your conference with the Center Staff is not confidential. You will be helped on a "first-come first-served" basis. Service may be limited to the first 20 persons each day, the first 10 on Monday afternoon. EAST COUNTY PRO PER CLINIC - VENTURA COUNTYThe East County Pro Per Clinic is a self-help clinic, there to help you act as your own attorney. The clinic can assist you with the selection and completion of forms necessary for your case and explain the law and procedure to you in all areas of family law. Family Law refers to dissolution, or divorce, legal separation, child custody and visitation disputes, child and spousal support, property and debt division and restraining orders. The Clinic can provide assistance only with family law matters. The Clinic cannot represent you in court or act as your attorney in any way. Likewise, there is no confidentiality given to your comments and no attorney-client privilege created between you and any attorney at the clinic. The Clinics are held every Thursday afternoon on the second floor of the East County Court House in Simi Valley (3855-F Alamo St., Simi Valley, CA 03063), from 1:30 until 4:30 p.m. They can assist only a limited number of participants each afternoon so it is important that you arrive early. You will be helped on a "first-come, first-served" basis in the order in which you check in. They must limit assistance to the first 25 persons who check in. At the Clinic you will speak with an attorney who will assess your situation and then refer you to an intern for assistance in completing forms.
